During monitoring of construction of the Buttevant wastewater collection scheme a length of random rubble wall was exposed within a trench on Richmond Street, c. 30m south of Lombard’s Castle (CO017–053(02)). The surviving portion of wall was 4m long, 0.65m wide and 0.76m high. It was towards the western side of the street and was parallel to it, running generally north–south. The wall comprised two courses, with a foundation course that kicked out from the eastern side. At the western side of the wall a number of paving stones were apparent at the base of the wall. The wall was constructed of large limestone blocks, with the core comprising small stones bonded with sticky orange clay. There were only occasional patches of render surviving. The wall may represent an earlier building line when the street was considerably narrower than today, possibly in the post-medieval period.
