An assessment was carried out in advance of the construction of a housing development comprising 69 houses, a crèche, a storm-water attenuation unit and associated groundworks at Fort Road, Cappa, Kilrush, Co. Clare. A ringfort, CL067–010, forms part of the northern boundary of the site.
A total of 22 test-trenches were excavated as part of the assessment; two areas of archaeological potential were identified, the foundation remains of a post-medieval stone building and walls, and a spread of burnt-mound material. Recommendations regarding the appropriate management of the monument, along with the preservation of the archaeological deposits uncovered, were made.
