A mixed commercial development at Ballymaley, Ennis, had thirteen test-trenches excavated in advance of works; these provided no findings of significance. A later geophysical survey (requested) showed an anomaly in the area of one of the trenches, which was described as a possible fulacht fiadh. This was test excavated and found to comprise later redeposited roughly dressed and undressed limestone. This apparently came from a building whose stonework had been burnt or subjected to considerable heat.
