Cavan County Council intend to development a new business park on the western outskirts of Cootehill at which testing was required. The lands are located c. 160m to the south of a partially destroyed ringfort (CV017–021). In general the site is under pasture, although the levels of the southernmost area have been raised by the dumping of inert material in recent years. Twenty-six trenches were excavated by machine fitted with a toothless ditching/grading bucket, following which the sides and bases were cleaned by hand and examined. In addition, the spoil was raked through in order to determine the artefact-bearing potential of the topsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered during the course of testing.
