The grant of planning for the construction of an apartment block with underground parking required that the subject site be subjected to an impact assessment to include testing. The site is located on the north-western outskirts of Cavan and c. 120m to the south-west of a partially destroyed ringfort (CV020–085).
Six trenches were excavated by machine fitted with a toothless ditching/grading bucket, following which the sides and bases were cleaned by hand and examined. In addition, the spoil was raked through in order to determine the artefact-bearing potential of the topsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered during the course of testing.
