Cavan County Council proposed to construct a water reservoir at this location as an element of the Cavan and Cootehill water supply scheme. An archaeological report on the scheme was carried out by the writer in May 2005 in which it was recommended that a programme of test-trenching be carried out in the vicinity of Billis ringfort (CA020–004), on its east side, prior to commencement of development works. The proposed reservoir will be located c. 30m east of the easternmost element of the ringfort. A series of seven test-trenches was excavated across the site of the reservoir and its associated buildings. Nothing of archaeological significance was exposed.
