This site was located within the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme along Contract 2, Phase 4B, Knocktopher to Powerstown, and was identified as a burnt mound during testing. An area 25m by 20m (north–south) was stripped of topsoil and three troughs (2.9m by 1.4m by 0.27m; 2m by 1.8m by 0.29m; 3.15m by 1.4m by 0.4m) and four pits (ranging from 1.6m by 0.6m by 0.22m to 1m by 0.5m by 0.23m) with associated post-holes (ranging from 0.4m diameter by 0.15m depth to 0.4m by 0.1m by 0.12m) were recorded under the burnt-mound material (charcoal, burnt clay and heat-shattered sandstone, with a maximum depth of 0.2m). The burnt material from the mound, trough and pits was sampled and the results of the radiocarbon dating and environmental analysis will be submitted with the final archaeological report.
