An archaeological investigation was undertaken in January 2007 in advance of the proposed development of lands at No. 1 Lower English Street, Armagh. Due to the archaeologically sensitive nature of the locale (23 SMR sites within 1km), it was recommended that the site be subject to evaluation in advance of development. Two parallel test-trenches were excavated across the confines of the site. The stratigraphic sequence of the site was characterised by modern overburden, up to 1.4m deep, immediately overlying undisturbed subsoil. No archaeological deposits were found.
