Monitoring work has been ongoing along the route A1, Scheme 1, mainline Newry bypass since October 2007. The new road is a 12km stretch of dual carriageway running from Beech Hill at the northern end to Cloghouge Junction at the south. A large number of archaeological sites, included ring-ditches, cremations, a rath and numerous other deposits have been uncovered. These sites have since been granted individual excavation licences (licence numbers AE/08/03–22) and work is currently ongoing to fully investigate and record the sites. Full details of the excavated sites will appear in the 2008 excavations bulletin.
