Monitoring took place of a site associated with the redevelopment of Muckamore Abbey Hospital. The construction work was centred on the site of two registered archaeological sites that were both identified as elliptical cropmarks from aerial photographs taken during the 1960s. The footprint of the development, comprising an area of c. 1200m2, was excavated down to natural strata. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were observed during this exercise, suggesting that archaeological remains associated with the cropmarks had been truncated by earlier development on the site.
Editor’s note: Although issued with an ‘07’ licence number (due to an error with an earlier number), this site was excavated during 2006 and was published in the bulletin of that year. However, it is reprinted here for the sake of completeness for 2007.
