It is proposed to construct a new educational facility to replace the existing college at the Lisburn Institute of Further and Higher Education, Lisburn, Co. Antrim. Due to the site’s close proximity to the historic settlement of Lisburn (ANT068–011), as well as being within the battlefield site of Lisnagarvey, an archaeological evaluation was conducted. The investigation revealed extensive occupation that dated from the 17th to the 20th century. This was comprised primarily of house plots, stone and mortar, along with brick and mortar walls, numerous cobbled surfaces and subsoil-cut features, such as ditches and rubbish pits. The majority of archaeological monitoring and excavation took place in 2007, but groundworks have continued into 2008.
