An archaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of development of the site. Three test-trenches were mechanically excavated to the surface of the subsoil. A section of vertically truncated drainage ditch (1m in length, 0.2m in width, 0.06m wide and aligned east–west), filled with peat, considered to be earlier or at least contemporary with the construction of the raised rath, was uncovered.
