Investigations took place as part of the development proposals for an extension to the nursing home at Braefield Nursing Home, 2 Carncome Road, Connor, Kells, and landscaping of the surrounding grounds. Under a previous licence evidence of a large ditch of possible medieval date was uncovered in the townland of Connor, which is located on the site of a multi-period ecclesiastical centre of major importance. The current work investigated the southernmost end of the ditch, which had not been previously investigated due to the presence of a site hut. The ditch itself is a maximum of 5m wide and continues south for a further 3.5m to the limits of the site boundary. The ditch is cut by a modern drainage ditch running north-east to south-west. The ditch was planned and then preserved in situ under a layer of geotextile and quarry dust.
