This burnt mound/fulacht fiadh was in Scratenagh, c. 7.25km north-east of Arklow town in Co. Wicklow. The archaeological investigation was undertaken on behalf of the National Roads Authority on the route of the N11 Rathnew to Arklow road improvement scheme. The site was in low-lying land c. 50m from the Redcross River and c. 200m south-west of WI036–021, a tumulus. The excavation was undertaken in June and July 2006.
The recorded site is contained within 20m by 20m and consisted of the truncated remains of burnt-mound activity comprising pits, stake-holes and a trough. No burnt spread was present on this site. Four pits, three stake-holes and a trough were identified. The four pits varied greatly and have been interpreted as belonging to a common site activity associated with the trough. The three stake-holes identified do not display a definitive structure type. It is probable that they represent the remnants of a fixing or structure associated with the trough. The trough was 2.47m (east–west) by 1.18m and 0.5m deep and contained five fills.
Two sherds of prehistoric pottery were recovered from this site.
