This excavation was undertaken on behalf of Wicklow County Council and the National Roads Authority in advance of the construction of the N11 Rathnew to Arklow road improvement motorway scheme.
A burnt spread, a burning area and associated pit were uncovered and excavated in Area A. The spread was not similar in form or nature to burnt-mound spreads excavated elsewhere in this area. This spread may represent recent agricultural burning activity, although further post-excavation analysis and dating will determine the significance of the features uncovered.
Area B, which was located on the northern side of the drain, revealed the remains of a burnt mound and an associated pit similar in nature and form to Bronze Age cooking or fulacht sites
