This excavation was undertaken on behalf of Wicklow County Council and the National Roads Authority in advance of the construction of the N11 Rathnew to Arklow road improvement motorway scheme.
The site comprised two cremation pits, probably dating to the prehistoric period. The simple pits were filled with cremated bone and charcoal; no pottery or other finds were associated with the burials. These cremation pits are probably related to the funerary rites of the Bronze Age peoples who were interacting with the surrounding landscape, as evidenced from the many fulachta fiadh excavated in the area.
