A single small test-trench was excavated within the footprint of a proposed restaurant extension at this site. Beneath 1.4m of modern overburden and post-medieval soils an unknown depth of mid-grey damp sandy clay with occasional pockets of orange redeposited subsoil was uncovered. The soil contained bone and one piece of green-glazed late medieval pottery was recovered from it. This deposit was not fully investigated, as it lay almost 1m below the level of the proposed foundation.
