Archaeological investigations were carried out at Fettit’s Lane/18 North Main Street, Wexford, in accordance with a condition of planning permission for a mixed development with associated services. An area measuring 10m north–south by 23.5m was excavated to the level of natural subsoil. Excavation revealed the character of the old shoreline and the gradual silting process, which was eventually followed by the reclamation of the land. A garden soil and structural remains of probable post-medieval date were identified. Possible medieval artefacts were recovered from a mixed deposit of material during the excavation but seem to have been in a secondary context.
