Richfield House is situated within the confines of WX046–052(01), a moated site, and adjacent to WX046–052(02), a tower-house. Monitoring of the removal of tree stumps was undertaken within the site’s bawn/overgrown garden. Tree stumps were removed by mechanical excavator. The removal of stumps showed that the soil cover in this area consisted of up to 0.3m of humic topsoil over an orange subsoil. In some areas a narrow band of lighter grey soil lay between the two main layers. No features of archaeological potential were uncovered, although several patches of burnt material containing white china and rubber were noted.
