A mound of rubble that had accumulated on the cloister garth at Dunbrody Abbey over the past 150 years or so was removed under archaeological supervision in preparation for future excavation. The work took place in late October/early November 2006.

Three portions of field boundaries at the north-west corner, abutting the outside wall of the north aisle and at the north-east corner of the abbey, were also removed in order to provide for, and to allow for, unfettered access for pedestrians and works vehicles around the exterior of the entire structure. A small amount of worked stone was retrieved along with some small finds of pottery, bone, glass and metal.
