This site was one of twenty excavated in Toar Bog, Co. Westmeath, as part of the 2006 Bord na Móna archaeological mitigation programme. Five sites had previously been excavated by the author in 2005 (see No. 2042 above). This site was identified in 2000 as unworked wood in situ. It was composed of a small irregular deposit of brushwood along the drain face with both horizontal and vertical elements (WM-PBY209). A single cutting measuring 2m by 2m was excavated on the field surface adjacent to the drain edge, as the original sighting had been sampled during survey work. Excavation revealed a single roundwood measuring 1.3m in length and 0.09m in diameter. Slot-trenches were excavated to the north and south of the cutting, but no further archaeological remains were uncovered.
