This site was one of twenty excavated in Toar Bog, Co. Westmeath, as part of the 2006 Bord na Móna archaeological mitigation programme. Five sites had previously been excavated by the author in 2005 (see No. 2042, Excavations 2006). This site was identified in 2000 as worked and unworked wood sites in situ (WM-KVY0113–0115) that were in close proximity. A single cutting was excavated along the drain edge, which revealed some fragmentary archaeological wood in the drain face close to the field surface which had no apparent function or orientation. Located 1m below, towards the base of the drain, was a roundwood and brushwood platform composed of closely placed roundwoods overlain by some brushwood and twigs. It measured 1.35m by 1.4m. The roundwood elements measured 0.07–0.1m in diameter and averaged 1.33m in length.
