This site was one of twenty excavated in Toar Bog, Co. Westmeath, as part of the 2006 Bord na Móna archaeological mitigation programme. Five sites had previously been excavated by the author in 2005 (Excavations 2005, No. 1584, 05E0730; No. 1585, 05E0731; No. 1587, 05E0727; No. 1588, 05E0728 and No. 1589, 05E0728).
This site was initially identified during the IAWU 2000 Peatland Survey as a collection of brushwood, four pieces deep, with occasional twigs in opposing drain faces (WM-KVY007). When the excavation was carried out, the site was revealed to have been mostly removed by sampling and all that remained was a degraded brushwood element, 0.01m in diameter, visible in the drain face. The surrounding area was examined, but no further remains were identified.
