An investigation took place on a spread of stones identified as a site of archaeological potential in a geophysical and intertidal survey carried out by Donal Boland in 2003 in advance of the laying of underwater services pipes. The site, Site 8 in the survey, was situated 20m upstream of the existing slipway of the Ballynakill–Little Island ferry on the west side of Little Island in the intertidal zone of King’s Channel, which flows around Little Island before rejoining the River Suir downstream. The investigation concluded that the site was rubble of recent date and originated from the installation of an outfall pipe or the construction of the nearby jetty and was not of archaeological or significant historical interest.
