It was proposed to improve and widen the Old Kilmeaden Road, Lismore. The works took place close to WA009–016. There was no direct impact on the monument, which was 10m south of the limit of the road-take. The location of the monument was known from aerial photographs.
A trench was excavated for a length of 85m parallel to the roadside by mechanical excavator. Initially the sod level was removed to a depth of c. 0.15–0.2m. This level had been subject to recent ploughing and modern rubbish was incorporated in the topsoil. The trench was then excavated to a depth of 0.5m; i.e. the topsoil/subsoil interface. No finds of any antiquity were found and no anomalies were apparent in the uniform soil profile or the subsoil surface. Here and there, areas were excavated to depths of 0.7–1m to examine the subsoil; again no anomalies were noticed.
