The site is located to the west of Lemybrien village, Co. Waterford. The development proposal outlined the construction of 22 houses with associated services and green areas. The site does not lie adjacent to any known monuments; however, given the scale of the development, it was decided that test-trenching should be implemented prior to the commencement of groundworks. The terrain lies adjacent to the 70m contour (OD) and is moderately level. The existing field system has changed slightly from that portrayed in the 19th-century OS, which indicates that the area originally consisted of nine small fields, since enlarged into three by the removal of field boundaries. Presently the site is under pasture. Test-trenching was undertaken on 26 September 2006. In order to minimise disturbance, the trenches were confined to the locations of the proposed foundations and service lines. A total of 25 trenches were excavated. All the trenches exhibited similar characteristics. Loose, black, waterlogged topsoil removed on to a white compact glacial till. No archaeological horizons were exposed.
