Monitoring of topsoil-stripping works was carried out at the site of a proposed development at Clanabogan, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, between 27 June and 4 July 2006. All mechanical ground breaking was conducted by means of a mechanical excavator furnished with a toothless, flat-bottomed ditching (or sheugh) bucket. The topsoil varied in depth between 0.1m and 0.45m and its removal revealed natural subsoil: a light-grey/white clay marl in the low-lying eastern portion of the site and a mid-orange boulder clay across the remainder of the development area. No archaeological deposits or remains were identified during the course of this monitoring exercise.
