Archaeological investigations in advance of the N7 Nenagh to Limerick road project at Carrigatogher (Harding) between 31 July and 21 August 2006 revealed a number of features spread over three separate areas (A026/435 H, A026/436 G and A026/437 F) and in an additional test-trench. Two pot-boilers and related hearths were located in Area H.
A possible round house denoted by a relatively shallow (c. 0.18m) curvilinear slot-trench was discovered during examination of Area G. The internal diameter of the structure measured c. 6.3m, with an entrance to the south-west measuring 1.6m. A series of pits and post-holes associated with the structure were also revealed.
Excavation in Area F revealed a modern field boundary and four charcoal-rich small features of unknown archaeological significance.
A pot-boiler-type feature and hearth were uncovered in the additional test-trench excavated here.
No artefacts were recovered from the excavation.
