These sites were initially identified during test excavation carried out in August 2005 along the N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown road improvement scheme (Excavations 2005, No. 1404, 05E0878). The sites were subsequently excavated between March 13 and 18 2006. Site 82.1 consisted of three pits and one associated post-hole within an area measuring 30m (north-west/south-east) by 30m. Site 82.2 consisted of four hearth features excavated within a site measuring 40m (north-west/south-east) by 40m. The features excavated in Sites 82.1 and 82.2 could indicate isolated settlement activity or perhaps these features are on the periphery of a larger site located further upslope where the land levels off, just beyond the limits of the road-take.
