Three sites, 204.1, 204.3 and 1313.1, were investigated under ministerial directive A035/00 in advance of the construction of the N24 road linking to the N8 north of Cahir.
Site 204.1 was located 65m south-west of Site 203.4 (see No. 1876 above, E2126). It covered an area measuring 20m by 15m and consisted of five pits and a shallow foundation. The pits were oval or subcircular in plan, measuring between 0.8m by 0.59m and 1.36m by 1.2m. They were between 0.05m and 0.22m deep and were filled with charcoal-rich silty clay that had frequent inclusions of burnt stone. The fills suggest that the pits may have been used for cooking. Phase 2 was characterised by a shallow foundation trench which cut one of the pits. It was 7.77m long, 0.84m wide and 0.14m deep. Two post-holes within the trench suggest that it may have had a structural function. A date of cal ad 782–986 was obtained for the site.
Site 204.3 was located 320m south-west of Site 204.1 and the area of excavation measured 13m by 10m. The site comprised pits and a post-hole, which were dated by finds of post-medieval pottery.
Site 1313.1 was 120m south-east of Site 204.3. The area of investigation measured 12m by 12m and was centred around a field ditch, which was dated to the post-medieval period by pottery finds.
