Test excavation was carried out in November 2006 as part of a pre-planning assessment at the site of a proposed road alignment to the rear of the lands of Alza Ireland Ltd. The portion of road to be widened is located in the townland of Owen’s & Bigg’s-Lot, Cashel, Co. Tipperary. The proposed development entails the widening and slight realignment of the ‘old road’, which is recorded in the RMP as it is believed to follow the alignment of the medieval trackway of Rian Bó Phádraig (St Patrick’s Cow’s Path). Testing was carried out along the length of road to be widened and realigned. The test-trenches were located along the eastern boundary of the development area in two separate fields. Trenches 1 and 2 were located parallel to the field boundary of the northern field and Trenches 3–8 were located perpendicular to the field boundary of the southern field. No archaeological features were identified during the test excavation.
