An excavation was carried out in July 2006 at a site in Moycarky, near Horse and Jockey, in advance of the proposed M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel road improvement scheme. Prior assessment and centreline test-trenching was carried out in 2005 (Excavations 2005, No. 1388, A027/009). This revealed two large subcircular features that were burnt in situ. The southernmost area measured 2.4m in diameter with a depth of 0.15m. The northern feature measured 2.5m in diameter. Excavation revealed this site to be composed primarily of a series of pits with evidence of in situ burning. Sixteen clearly defined features were identified within the site area; these include the remnants of a burnt pit identified during the testing phase of the investigation. Three linear features, eleven pits, of which four exhibited evidence of in situ burning, and two possible post-holes were investigated as well as four anomalies that were determined to be of non-archaeological origin. These features represented the primary make-up of the site.
