These sites were initially identified during test excavation carried out in August 2005 along the N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown road improvement scheme (Excavations 2005, No. 1414). The sites were subsequently excavated between 5 and 25 April 2006. Four burnt mounds were identified in varying degrees of preservation along a 550m stretch of road-take. Sites 99.1 and 99.4 were located upslope on the margins of wet marshy land, while 99.3 and 99.2 were located within this wet marshy area. Two small streams ran in a north-east/south-west direction across the road-take along this stretch of land. A number of samples have been selected for charcoal analysis. No artefacts were found during the course of excavations.
