A test excavation was conducted on 13 July 2006 in the area of a proposed development, which lay adjacent to a ruined castle site (TI047–036) at Cloghmartin, Fertiana. The surface ruins of the castle were found to have been removed by a previous owner, with the remains being incorporated into extant farm buildings. Two test-trenches were excavated, 16m and 28m long. Nothing of an archaeological nature was uncovered in either trench during the course of the testing.
