This site was initially identified during test excavation carried out in August 2005 along the N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown road improvement scheme. The sites were subsequently excavated on 5–12 May 2006. The sites were topsoil-stripped under supervision and for the purpose of the excavation a large area was stripped to incorporate Sites 1–4. This area measured 90m (south-west/north-east) by 35m. Two main clusters of archaeological features were identified within this area, at the north-eastern and south-western extents of the site. The features identified in both areas consisted of pits and post-holes. The site was located immediately north of Site 185:5, where a number of structures dating to the Bronze Age were identified. The features identified on this site may be contemporary. Pottery found during the excavation would indicate that the site is prehistoric in date.
