An excavation took place during June and July, in advance of the construction of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel road improvement scheme. Prior assessment and centreline test-trenching was carried out by Sinéad Phelan in 2005 (Excavations 2005, No. 1388, A027/008). The site was located in low-lying flat reclaimed bog. Following the removal of the topsoil, a burnt mound, measuring c. 15.5m (east–west) by 18.5m, was uncovered. Subsequent excavation uncovered the remains of the rectangular-shaped trough with the remains of a wooden lining, and an accompanying circular-shaped waterhole, immediately to the south-east of the trough. The diameter of the accompanying waterhole was 2m (maximum), while its depth was c. 0.55m. The trough measured c. 2.1m (south-east/north-west) by 1.65m and 0.3m in depth.
