An excavation took place during September in advance of the construction of the M8/N8 Cullahill to Cashel road improvement scheme. Prior assessment and centreline test-trenching was carried out in 2005 by Sinéad Phelan (Excavations 2005, No. 1388, A027/008). Investigation revealed the remains of the lowermost portion of the trough of a burnt mound. The dimensions of the trough were c. 2.1m (north-west/south-east) by 1.2m and c. 0.15m in depth. Traces of the charcoal and burnt stones (of the original burnt mound) were also uncovered, dispersed in topsoil, to the south of the trough. However, it was clear that this burnt-mound material had been disturbed. It is probable that the burnt-mound material was partially removed by modern field clearance activity. In addition, the remains of two modern field boundaries, and a field drain, were also uncovered.
