The proposed development is situated within the environs of Sligo town in the townland of Abbeyquarter South at the junction of Chapel Street and Chapel Hill. The development will consist of a new extension to St Anne’s Youth and Community Centre along the west side of the existing building. While there are no known archaeological sites within the development area, the proposed development lies within the zone of archaeological potential associated with the town of Sligo, SL014–065. Two test-trenches were machine excavated across the southern area of the proposed development. The trenches were a maximum depth of 1.84m and produced only fragments of early modern pottery. They produced no evidence for any deposits of archaeological significance.
