It was proposed to develop the site at 1–5 Abbey Street Lower, Sligo, for residential development. The site lies within the confines of the zone of archaeological potential associated with the town of Sligo and as such had an archaeological condition placed on this aspect of the development.
Testing took place across the footprint of the area by means of a series of machine-excavated trenches. The results showed that the construction of the previous buildings on the site had removed any traces of significant archaeological deposits. A single linear feature was noted running east–west across the site, but, on investigation, this proved to be early modern in date, probably immediately pre-dating the houses that were on the site prior to testing.
