The site of the proposed development at Sessuagarry, Tubbercurry, is located on high ground with panoramic views to the south, east and west. It consists of 1.8 acres under pasture. The proposed development will include a dwelling house, garage, access and proprietary treatment unit/percolation area. The site is located near SL031–044 (a ringfort). The ringfort is skirted by an existing tertiary road. While the majority of the proposed development, including the house, garage and septic tank/
percolation area, is located over 50m from the ringfort, the site access and in particular the proposed entrance, is located within 10m of the extant monument. Five test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. Trench 1, situated along the site access and the closest to the monument, measured 20m long, while Trenches 2–5 measured 10m long. All trenches measured 1.8m wide. All trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.3–0.5m. No evidence of archaeological activity was revealed in any of the trenches.
