A human skull was found during dredging works on the Owenur River at Drumlish, between Elphin and Roosky, Co. Roscommon,239 in August 2006. The skull was lifted from the riverbed by a digger engaged in cleaning the river. The river feeds into Cloonahee Lough to the east and forms the border between the townlands of Drumlish and Cloonahee. The skull was found close to where the river enters the lake on the western side. This skull is included in the ‘Islands of the dead’ study undertaken by Christina Fredengren (forthcoming).
