An assessment was carried out in October 2006 at the site of a proposed development located in the townland of Lisdillure, c. 4km to the north of the village of Cornafulla, Co. Roscommon. A site listed in the RMP as an enclosure is recorded within the development area. There are no extant remains of the site but it was originally recorded at this location during an archaeological survey of County Roscommon in the 1970s. The assessment involved the excavation of a series of test-trenches in the field where the archaeological site is recorded and in two adjacent fields. A geophysical survey was conducted in the field where the site was recorded prior to test excavation. Extensive land levelling and quarrying would appear to have removed all visible traces of the enclosure recorded at this location. Although test excavation or geophysical survey did not reveal any definite remains of an enclosure, small sections of ditch or isolated features may survive in areas not tested. Monitoring was recommended in advance of construction to allow for preservation in situ or by recording any archaeological features.
