The site lies adjacent to a later medieval parish church and graveyard, RO039–063. While the proposed development would not interfere directly with the monument, the location suggested that it was possible that unknown subsurface remains might be impacted on by the initial excavations for house foundations. The work took place on 14 February 2006. A desk study, fieldwork and test-trenching complemented by aerial survey revealed no evidence that the proposed development will interfere with any of the known surface features visible in the environs of the site. Testing revealed that the excavations for foundations and the sewage treatment plant will not impact on the nearby remains of the late medieval church or graveyard. No material, levels or features of archaeological value were uncovered during the test excavations.
