Pre-development testing was carried out on the site of a proposed housing development at Cuilmore, Co. Roscommon, on 18–19 April 2006. The site is located on the west bank of the Boyle River, with the village of Cootehall lying on the opposite bank. The western extremity of the proposed development site lies within the area of constraint around a ringfort terraced into the slopes of a prominent rise. Testing comprised the mechanical excavation of seventeen trenches. The topsoil varied between 0.1 and 0.4m in thickness and overlay orange/brown sandy subsoil. No archaeological material was uncovered.
