The site of the proposed development is located in the townland of Cloonavery, situated between Jamestown and Drumsna villages, Co. Roscommon. The proposed development is to include the construction of 29 detached houses. The development site is situated east of the bridge crossing the River Shannon at Drumsna village. There is a derelict 20th-century dwelling house on the site. There are no known monuments situated near the site. The closest is RO011–056 (ringfort), located 50m west of the site. Twenty test-trenches were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. A further trench had originally been proposed, but the area to be investigated by Trench 21 was under a considerable amount of water at the time of the assessment. All twenty trenches measured 1m wide and were of varying lengths, including 2m by 200m, 5m by 120m, 7m by 100m, 3m by 80m, 3m by 40m. All trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.2–0.4m. No evidence of archaeological activity was revealed in any of the test-trenches.
