The site is located some 1.5km east of the town of Boyle to the west of the new line of the N4 Sligo to Dublin road. The proposed development is for the construction of eleven houses with associated services and access roads. While there are no known archaeological sites within the development area, the close proximity of ecclesiastical remains (RO006–026) led to the imposition of an archaeological condition on the planning permission. Five trenches were excavated within the confines of the development site by a machine fitted with a 1.8m-wide toothless bucket. The first test-trench ran parallel to the southern boundary of the site, the second some 10m to the north, through the line of proposed houses. The third was to the north again, testing the line of the access road within the development. The final two trenches were excavated along the line of the access road, but nothing of archaeological interest was revealed.
