Testing was carried out at Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon, in May 2006. The proposed development entails the construction of 24 dwelling houses, a sewerage pumping station and ancillary services. The site is located c. 200m north-west of RO025–017.
Five test-trenches were excavated using a machine fitted with a toothless grading bucket along the foundations of the proposed houses as well as the proposed access road. One trench was abandoned due to the presence of a power line. During the course of testing it became clear that the site comprised deep deposits of peat throughout. In places it extended to depths of up to 5m. Sherds of modern pottery and sherds of 19th-century and modern glass were recovered in the topsoil. Nothing of significance was recovered.
