Testing was carried out in Maghernakelly, Co. Monaghan. The site was located on the grounds of a disused mushroom factory. Planning permission was granted for the construction of two residential properties with associated garages and percolation areas. The site is situated in a valley immediately across the road from MO022–009, a rath, and falls within the buffer zone surrounding it. Testing was conducted on 6 December 2006.
Seven trenches were excavated. The topsoil had been removed and gravel and angular stones had been placed under an average of 0.15m of concrete. Close to the entrance of the site the concrete was too thick to remove with the toothed digger bucket and needed a rock breaker, therefore about 33m of Trench 1 could not be excavated. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were found at this site. The features found were a result of modern drainage.
