Topsoil monitoring took place on the southern section of the south–north gas pipeline, which ran from Gormanstown in Co. Meath to the border at Dungooly in Co. Louth. All finds and deposits uncovered were investigated and, where these proved to be either small isolated features or findings of ‘no archaeological significance’, they were dealt with under this licence. Where they proved to be either significant and or extensive, they were cordoned off and a separate licence was applied for.
In all, some forty such ‘isolated features’ were investigated and recorded under licence 06E0142, the vast majority of which were found to be non-archaeological or of modern agricultural origin; the remainder, a variety of pits and short linear gullies, will be further examined and included in the final project report.
