This site was located within Contract 3 (Navan bypass) of the proposed M3 Clonee to north of Kells motorway and was identified during advance testing by Aidan O’Connell in April 2004 (Excavations 2004, No. 1346, 04E0583). Full resolution in February 2006 revealed the remains of two burnt mounds. A burnt-stone spread (30m by 5m at least) extended beyond the land-take and overlay a large trough (2.5m by 1m) and a number of associated pits. A ring brooch was recovered from the matrix between the burnt spread and the topsoil. A second burnt spread (8m by 11m) overlay three pits, the largest of which measured 2m in diameter by 0.5m in depth. The pits all contained a mix of burnt stone and charcoal. Later gullies and ditches were identified.
